Background
Matthew Lumsden is an accomplished baseball professional with over 18 years of experience as a player, coach, and player development specialist. With deep roots and strong connections throughout the Southeast and Southwest baseball communities—particularly in Georgia, Texas, and the Carolinas—Matthew has built a reputation for excellence in talent development and mentorship.
A 2018 graduate of J.L. Mann High School in Greenville, South Carolina, Matthew made a significant impact during his high school career. He helped lead his team to two state championship appearances and a top-25 national ranking during his sophomore season. His individual accolades include First-Team All-State honors, North-South All-Star selection, and Region Player of the Year.
Matthew continued his playing career at Clemson University, where he competed for three years and earned a degree in Health Science with an internship focused on Sports Performance Enhancement. While at Clemson, he was part of a team that reached the NCAA Oxford Regional, before the following season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following his time at Clemson, Matthew transferred to the University of Texas at Arlington to pursue his Master’s degree and continue playing in the competitive Sun Belt Conference. Despite missing the first half of the season and competing with a broken thumb, Matthew led the team in home runs.
After concluding his collegiate playing career, Matthew transitioned into coaching and player development. His coaching resume includes leading a championship-winning 12U team at Cooperstown Dreams Park, coaching American Legion Post 271, and mentoring athletes on competitive 16U travel teams. He remains dedicated to developing the next generation of baseball talent through hands-on instruction and mentorship.
Currently, Matthew is actively involved with West End Baseball Academy, Athlete’s Base, and his alma mater J.L. Mann High School, where he continues to share his knowledge and passion for the game.
Matthew resides in Greenville, South Carolina, and is preparing for his upcoming wedding to his fiancée, Jackson. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and supporting his brother and soon-to-be brother-in-law in their baseball careers (West Virginia University
