The Spring Baseball and Softball season is finally here! For a large portion of the country games are underway. No matter what grad class you are in, there’s no substitute for producing. As athletes we embrace the idea that we have to produce in order to help our team win, keep our spot in the lineup, and to make an impression on college coaches. If that notion seems like pressure, remember pressure makes diamonds!
For those in the 2026 class still on the hunt for a quality landing spot to continue your academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level, there are still opportunities out there if you are specifically targeting the right level(s) of play. Time is of the essence, and looking in the wrong direction can and will cause opportunities at the right levels to dry up. Remember, college athletic opportunities, are no different than simple supply and demand. As outlined in previous blog posts, the supply of high school student athletes and juco student athletes looking for college opportunities has never been higher in relation to demand/opportunities from the college side. Regulations, roster limitations, etc. are all contributing factors. That being said, a TARGETED search with a PROPER PROFESSIONAL EVALUATION can still find potential opportunities out there.
The 2027 class has entered the upperclass now and just like the 2026 class, production has no substitute. Any acclimation process to the varsity/high school level should now be in the rear view mirror. For those in discussions with some schools and have not been offered and/or committed, getting off to a solid start will certainly help close a potential offer. For those just beginning their process or still searching, no need to panic. Plenty of opportunities are still out there at all levels of play, depending upon position. Pitching will always be a need at any level. To a slightly lesser extent so will catching and shortstop play. For corner infielders and outfielders, it may be time make some search adjustments as far as the targeted level of play goes. There will always be outliers in anything in life, so you never know who may be still be looking for a power bat corner inf/of player. This is where the evaluation process really comes into play by a credible networked staff, so as to not waste any time.
The 2028 and 2029 classes for the most part are just getting started with your high school careers. For the 2028 class a broad spectrum of schools and levels of play can still be actively researched at this stage. Keeping in mind, coming out of this summer the scope should narrow, and a specific target level should start to be pursued. That can mean anything and everything from which school camps should be considered coming out of the summer, to who should you as the player be reaching out to schools wise. We saw last summer that college coach attendance was down overall at tournaments for many reasons, but that attendance at fall tournaments was at an extremely high level. So we can conclude that the fall builds off the summer circuit along with targeted camp attendance.
For the 2029 class, whether you are playing on the freshman, junior varsity, or already on the varsity team, now is the time to get of on the right foot academically, and begin to really embrace the concept of strength and conditioning. The game at the collegiate level is more physical than ever at all divisions. The proper strength and conditioning program will play a huge role in your college recruiting journey and readiness in a coach’s mind of whether you can step on campus and contribute.
In closing, irregardless of grad class, get sound advice on what level of play should be targeted and how to go about that process. When the opportunity presents itself, do not look a gift horse in the mouth. Proper preparation will allow a timely and informed decision to be made when the time comes.
Best of luck to all the baseball and softball players this spring!
